What a let door has to survive
A short-let door gets used harder than any other door we fit. Strangers who have never seen it before, arriving in the dark, with luggage, sometimes after a long flight, trying it for the first time.
That changes what we fit. The keypad has to be lit and readable. The code entry has to be forgiving of a wrong digit. The mechanism has to take hundreds of cycles a year rather than the couple of dozen a family door sees. And there has to be a way in when a battery goes flat between cleans, because that is the call you do not want at eleven at night.
Codes that expire on their own
The point of the thing is that access ends by itself. A code issued for a booking stops working at checkout whether anybody remembers or not — which matters most on the bookings you have stopped paying attention to.
Cleaners and maintenance get their own codes on their own days, so you can see who was in and when without asking anybody. If you run several properties, that is the difference between managing them and being managed by them.

Flats with a shared front door
The common case in Manchester, and the one that catches people out. The building entrance usually is not yours to change, so the guest needs whatever that door uses plus their own code for your flat.
We survey both and tell you what is actually possible before you buy anything. Sometimes the answer is a lock on your door and a sensible arrangement for the entrance; occasionally the building management will not allow it at all, and it is better to find that out from us than from them.
- What if a guest cannot work the keypad?
Most locks we fit take a card as well as a code, and a card left inside for the guest to use is the usual answer for anyone who finds a keypad awkward.
- What happens if the battery dies mid-stay?
It warns for weeks first, and every lock we fit keeps a power-free way in. We show you where it is and what to tell a guest before we leave.
- Can you do several properties at once?
