What a fitted price includes, and what puts it up

Two fitted prices can look alike and cover different jobs. This is what ours covers, and the things on a door that change the number.

What is in the fitted price

Looking at the door before anything is ordered. The lock. Fitting it to the mechanism the door already has. Setting up the app account in your name. Adding the household's codes, cards or fingerprints. And showing whoever uses the door how it works.

The current price of the lock we supply, fitted and on its own, is on its product page, so it is never out of date here.

What puts it up

A door that has dropped. If the bolts no longer line up with the keeps, the door has to be adjusted first, or no lock will work properly.

A worn mechanism. If the gearbox inside the door is failing, a smart lock on top of it fails with it. It gets replaced first.

The cylinder. Some locks need a particular cylinder — a different length, or one that still works with a key left in the inside.

Remote access. Opening the door or sending a code from away from the house needs a gateway, which is an extra part.

More than one door. Front and back on one system costs less per door than two separate visits, but it is still two doors.

What should not be on a quote

Anything you were not told about before the work started. The price is fixed after we have seen the door, or photos of it. If something nobody could have seen changes the job, we stop and say so before going on.

Comparing two quotes

Ask each one which of the things above are included, whether the cylinder is being kept or changed and what it is rated, and whose name the app account will be in. The cheaper quote is often the one that leaves something out.

More on the cylinder question: what actually holds your door shut.

A photo of the door edge is usually enough to quote from.
